Beach, sea, sport and culture
The Residence La Fontaine is at Venezia Lido, an island famous for its sandy beaches, for the International Cinema Festival and for its closeness to the historical Venice.
An island morphologically unique, a long and narrow strip of land, 11 km long that at some point is so narrow that allows to sees the open sea on one side and the Venice lagoon on the other side.
A place in the nature, with WWF protected oases, with palaces and private villas in Liberty stile , silent for those who seek quit yet with animated night life during the important events of the summer.
For the bicycling lovers it’s an ideal place as it is entirely covered with protected bicycling trails as well as trails along the panoramic sea-cost. Using public transportation excursions can be made to Pellestrina (old fishermen village with ancient traditions) and to Choggia ( the Venice by land where ancient venetian traditions of the old lagoon survive nowadays) and finally to the valleys of Millecampi.
Worth mentioning also the Venice Golf Country Club at the far east end of the Lido, famous for its unique course. The history of this golf course, one of the first in Italy, starts in 1928 when Henry Ford of the Ford Company, arrived at the Excelsior Hotel with his golf bag was surprised od not finding any golf course. He invited his friend the count of Giuseppe Volpi di Misurata to seek a suitable location for a golf course; the punta Alberoni was chosen and the presence of a former Austrian fort gave the course its peculiar shape, unique in its kind. Famous people played on these fairways, people say that even Hitler and Mussolini played these holes just before 2nd world war.
Venice Lido and ist beaches
The Venezia Lido became famous at the onset of 900 for its golden sandy beach, it offers an enchanting place for those who love sea and beach. The Lido beaches are all low and sandy with a clean and fine sand that enter the sea very slowly making it safe and easy for the children.
The beaches are equipped with beach chairs, large umbrellas and cabins which are for rent even on a daily basis at prices variable depending on location and beaches.
For nature lovers there are also the “free beaches” at the ends of the island: Alberoni or San Nicolo where access is free and is possible to spend the day by the beach surrounded by pine trees woods.
Very interesting the area “ Murazzi” which was placed in the 700 as a protection against the “acqua alta- High water . The Murazzi are made of rocks from Istria that give the water line is peculiar aspects.
Venice film festival
Venezia Lido is where takes place the Film festival in the period end of August mid September; The Venice Film festival is world famous, is very near the La Fontaine Residence, literally few steps so that is possible to cross path with the cinema world people attending the event.
What to do
Venezia Lido has a lot to offer; days at the beach, courses for sub, windsurf, kite surf, swimming, fishing, bicycle tours, riding lessons, archery lessons and many other sport activities.
A visit to Venice is a must and the Lido is the ideal starting point as Piazza San Marco is only 15minutes away by public boat from the Lido boat terminus S:M: Elisabetta. Counting that La Fontaine is only 5 minutes away on foot, you can be in San Marco square in 20 minutes.
Venice but not only
Venice ha many interesting islands to visit, all in the venetian lagoon: Murano, Burano, Torcello, Pellestrina and some minor ones all living of their own activities; fishing, glass blowing, laces, fruits and vegetables.
